Come and learn the how-to's of the professional food photography world: working food with light and angles, understanding contrast, depth of field and composition as it applies to food, as well as the key equipment involved in food photography. We'll also discover the way in which your choice of props, surfaces, and other styling aspects change the look and feel of your shot. Props and styling aids will be supplied. We’ll do a deep dive into the logistics of from marketing to pitching to image licensing, and invoicing. This is a tell all weekend full of information and inspiration - not to mention yummy food!

DAY 1 — the basics aren’t basic at all

We’re going to dive deep into the techniques that make for good food photography, so whether you’re new to the game or an established pro, this is where you level up. Light, composition, depth of field, mood, colour — these are all essential considerations when it comes to crafting a beautiful food image. Students will get to experience both natural and artificial lighting scenarios as well as an opportunity to create images for their own portfolio.

We’ll get into the theory in the morning and run some demos as example on our own work flow, and then it’s your turn! Get behind the lens — we’ll e there to support you at every step in the creative process.

Advanced Techniques: Say goodbye to the ordinary. Learn advanced techniques that will transform your food photos into visually-stunning masterpieces. Understand angles, focal points, and presentation dynamics to create synergy between food styling and photography.

Master Lighting: From natural light to artificial setups, learn how to harness different lighting sources to add depth, drama, and brilliance to your food compositions.

Creative Composition: Say goodbye to ordinary plating. Learn the principles of colour, balance, and texture to create stunning food arrangements that are as visually delightful as they are delicious.

Whether you’re doing the cooking, the styling, the shooting, or all three, understanding the principles, tools and techniques used by top stylists will ensure that your work rises above the rest.

Creative Styling: Learn to finesse the details and take your images to new heights. Layer in subtlety, bring out the highlights, add depth, and add movement — all with the help of a pro stylists kit.

The Power of Props: Discover the secrets behind arranging food, props, and backgrounds to create captivating scenes that tell a story and evoke emotions.

Editing Magic: Uncover the power of post-processing. Dive into professional editing tools and techniques to refine your images and make them truly pop.

Portfolio Review: Curation is key! How we present our photographs is as important as the quality of the work itself. Get some 1-1 feedback and ensure your putting your best self out there.
